Rendez-vous sauvage, a mobile curiosity cabinet

The adventure of “Rendez-vous sauvage” was born through the collaboration between Jade Fourès-Varnier and the à 2 c’est mieux studio. This market trader’s truck that has been transformed into an itinerant contemporary art gallery was conceived as a nomadic event to present the works of young French artists. Rendez-vous sauvage intends to overturn the customary outlook of exhibitions to establish a direct exchange with the public, a dialogue about art and the preoccupations of a generation greedy for movement.
Through the events 1,2,3 GO!, ON AIR, Niveaux de Gris Poster Collection and Fête de la musique, you will discover the world of pop and wizz of this band of fiercely optimistic youth.

ANTHONY BURRILL

Anthony Burrill’s persuasive, up-beat illustration and design has been commissioned by cultural, social and commercial clients around the world from New York, to London to Tokyo. He has also gained a following in the design world for his innovative collaborations with friends and fellow artists, designers, print-makers and film-makers. Burrill works across a range of media, including posters, moving image and three-dimensional work. He combines an instinctive handling of colour and composition with a witty approach to words. He has worked on advertising campaigns and posters for clients such as The Economist, the British Library and London Underground. He regularly collaborates with musicians and animators to make films, music promos and animations, using his distinctive visual vocabulary and passion for fusing sound and image. His installations and 3-D work have been commissioned by Colette in Paris and The Design Museum in London among others. Printmaking is an important part of Burrill’s practice and he creates limited edition prints with slogans including “Work Hard and Be Nice to People” that have become mantras for the design community and beyond. Burrill has also taken part in group and solo exhibitions around the world – from London’s Kemistry Gallery to the Graphic Design Museum at Breda - and lectured and led workshops at numerous design events and educational institutions.

DAVID ELLIS VAN WHY NOT ASSOCIATES

Why Not Associates are a London based design group with clients in world-wide commerce, public service and regional government. Established more than 20 years ago, we are widely credited for an influential role in the development of today's design expectations, consistently applying innovation, imagination, and sound commercial values. Graphic design's natural home is in the city and perhaps no other visual medium apart from Architecture effects the experience of our cities more. In the city we are literally surrounded by graphics. But unlike architecture, which can take decades to reflect changes in society, graphic design is constantly developing and reacting to the mood of a city. Signage, advertising, magazines, books, corporate identity, web sites and television surround us and inform us. But while our work at Why Not encompasses all these mediums, it also fuses with architecture in the form of typography applied to built environments.

ART+COM

ART+COM Berlin studio for new media design, is specialized in translating content into spatial environments using interactive media to create vivid experiences. Since the earliest days of the genre the interdisciplinary bureau has been a pioneer of media design, art, tech¬nology, and research. Its projects range from interactive exhibits and installations to media façades, immersive scenographies and rooms.

Abstract lecture Prof. Joachim Sauter
After the first decade of the internet as mass medium (1995-2005), we observed a renais-sance of the physical world – a renaissance of communication in space. We see an increas¬ing number of people leaving the isolated situation in front of a computer at home, going into a museum to experience information in a physical environment together with other people. But in comparison to the pre-digital times visitors are now computer-literate and expect to find the qualities of this new medium (like interactive, networked and collaborative experi¬ences) in spatial communication. In the talk showcases of interactive installations and interactive environments in space will be discussed.

THOMAS MATTHEWS

Sophie Thomas is co-founder of thomas.matthews, a leading practice in sustainable communication design.

Sophie plays a vocal part in promoting sustainable thinking in design education and regularly participates in conferences and workshops in the UK and Internationally. She is co-founder of the social enterprise Three Trees Don't Make a Forest, set up in 2008 to educate and inspire communication designers through practical tools and advice and greengaged an organisation that creates events and networks to encourage the debate around sustainable design that launched in 2008 at the London Design Festival.

Thomas.matthews produces high quality, innovative design at a time when simplicity of solution and clarity of message matters. To put it another way, we believe in good* design. *appropriate, sustainable and beautiful. When we say appropriate we mean communicating the message through the most effective medium to the right audience. Sustainable we define as design that has embedded systemic sustainability. And beautiful, through the creation of an eye catching and well-crafted outcome.

Our studio has teamed up with global corporations, architects and planners, museums, governments and world changing NGOs to create a whole range of projects. Whether it's design for branding, consultation, campaigns, print, web, signage or exhibitions, sustainability is always in mind. It's not a 'buzzword' to us and we haven't retro-fitted it onto our list of services. It's been the foundation of our studio from the start and we're always pushing to do better.

Our 12 years of experience in communication design has allowed us to understand how to turn business, CSR and sustainability strategy into creative, appealing and understandable design outputs. So much of the time we see good intention lost in design that does not fulfil the vision behind it. Sustainability in business should give integrity, not greenwash and should inspire change from consumers and clients.

LUST

LUST is a three-person multidisciplinary graphic design practice established in 1996 by Thomas Castro, Jeroen Barendse and Dimitri Nieuwenhuizen and based in The Hague, Netherlands. LUST works include traditional printwork and book design, abstract cartography and data-visualisations, new media and interactive installations, and architectural graphics. LUST design methodology has been described as generative-systems or process-based, centered upon designing systems which lead to design instead of designing the end-product itself. Moreover, LUST is deeply interested in exploring new pathways for design at the cutting edge where new media and information technologies; architecture and urban systems; and, graphic design and typography overlap.

Willy Wong

WILLY WONG

Willy Wong is Chief Creative Officer at NYC & Company, the City of New York's official marketing organization. He leads the creative vision and strategy for NYC's major branding, advertising, and design initiatives. Through digital, print, motion, environmental, and experiential channels, Wong’s internal team and external studio partners strive to define a cohesive yet open-ended narrative for New York City.

Wong’s presentation about NYC will trace its recent creative output against the City’s brand positioning. In addition to sharing various campaigns and projects produced over the last four years on a local to global scale, he will also explain how inspiration, urgency, and manageability guide all design and communications goals. His discussion will highlight the challenges and rewards of working in an extremely hybrid position as a public/private entity, as commissioner, maker, and facilitator, in the capacity as both client and agency.
